DRY NEEDLING

A needle treatment that penetrates the skin and stimulates underlying myofascial trigger points and muscular and connective tissues

At Backstobasics we offer Dry Needling as an alternative medicine to Acupuncture

HOW DOES IT WORK

It is a thin monofilament needle, which penetrates the skin and treats underlying muscular trigger points for the management of neuromusculoskeletal pain and movement impairments.

Easing the trigger points may improve flexibility and increase range of motion.

FAQ

РWILL IT HURT

When the clinician successfully penetrates a trigger point it may generate a twitch response

You may also experience a dull ache along a portion of the muscle and / or a sharp, specific pain below the needle

– HOW MANY NEEDLES DO YOU USE

Needle diameter and depth is selected according to the size and anatomy of target muscle, and surrounding tissue. More acute injuries can respond to more superficial stimulation using a short and small diameter needle. There will likely be multiple needles throughout the entire muscle.

РWILL I BLEED

In most cases, there is no blood or bruising.  In cases there is bleeding when the needle is withdrawn, the tissue will be compressed for 5-10 seconds, or for 30-60 seconds using a cotton swab

РHOW SHOULD I FEEL AFTER

It is normal to feel muscle soreness anywhere from 24 ‚Äď 72 hours after dry needling therapy
